Painting Update 2: Elizabeth StretchesJuly 3, 2015
Another update to show on the new painting. It’s still in a “roughing in” stage as I’ve brought the background up in value with a red earth tone, and added some modeling to the figure. I decided to get rid of that “S” shape in the background. I didn’t think it was doing anything worthwhile for me.
I didn’t use any medium for modeling the figure, just thinned the paint with water, which isn’t affecting the illustration board at all. The background is a mixture of cadmium red, cadmium orange, burnt sienna, and ultramarine blue. The figure uses cerulean blue, raw sienna, cadmium orange, cadmium yellow, and titanium white.
Next I’ll darken the background some more, and then start making the figure look more like skin.
