New Oil Painting Started: Ten Tubas

January 6, 2011

I’ve begun a new oil painting, and this shows some of the undertone layer being applied with a closeup detail. It’s 18×24 inches, a bit larger than usual for me, on Multimedia Artboard. The white areas are not yet unpainted over.

The paint here was made with the methylcellulose medium that I demonstrated in the previous post. I used a Faber-Castell Polychromos pencil, Warm Grey, for the line drawing. This is an oil-based pencil, so you can see in the closeup how it doesn’t bleed when this paint medium is applied over it.
